From Campus to the World: UMLA Supports the Development of the Global Halal Industry in Thailand

Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan (UMLA) continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting the development of the global halal ecosystem while promoting Muhammadiyah’s economic mission on the international stage.

This concrete step is evidenced by UMLA’s active participation as one of the official sponsors of the international Halal Bangkok Expedition (HBE) 2026, which will take place July 6–9, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand. This strategic event serves as a crucial opportunity for UMLA to bridge the academic world with the rapidly growing global halal industry.

The main organizers of the Halal Bangkok Expedition 2026 are a synergistic collaboration between PERMITHA (Indonesian Student Association in Thailand) and PCIM Thailand (Special Branch Leadership of Muhammadiyah Thailand). This collaboration aims to strengthen the network of youth, students, and Muslim communities in Southeast Asia to foster economic self-reliance and enhance halal product literacy on the global stage.

Over the course of four days, the HBE 2026 agenda comprehensively combines a variety of academic and social activities. One of these is the International Learning Laboratory program, which uses Thailand as a living laboratory to study how the Muslim minority community has successfully managed the halal ecosystem from upstream to downstream, earning global recognition. Additionally, the International Community Service program—or internal community service—will also be held.
